One of the Easter Cards from a friend in the diocese had these words which brought tears of solidarity, joy and anticipation which said, 'I look forward to when we can break bread together again'. I am deeply saddened by our situation at St Andrew's in Aberdeen where the People of God cannot break bread with their priest for reasons that even the heavens cannot fathom.
The image above is breakfast with friends in this holy month of Ramadhan with our friends in the Islamic faith. The month of fasting is given to enable the faithful to 'At Onement' with God, neighbour and the whole creation. When we fail to follow the way of peace which the Risen Christ proclaimed, we end up in 'Fragmentation'.
It is the Islamic Faith which has preserved the joy of sharing the peace of God when we hear the faithful greeting each other, 'Salaam Aleichem' or what the Risen Lord would have said, 'Shalom Aleichem'. The true joy of that greeting is in living out that peace. May the peace of the Risen Lord with with us.
